Lileks buys a car

James Lileks bought a new car last week and I'm a little concerned.

Now, of course, I barely know the man, but he runs one of the most well-designed, pleasing-to-the-eye websites, ever, and I read The Bleat nearly everyday. But still, why should I care about what car he buys. Because he bought one of the ugliest cars ever made, the Honda Element. It's so ugly, it makes me cry every time I see one on the road. Lileks writes that someone compared it to a Soviet Ice Cream Truck. No. The Soviets had more style. Actually, I think it was a car built for Asimo and then Honda decided to try to sell it to actual people.

But then he mentions that the car has XM radio. Well, okay. Having experienced the joys of XM radio myself, I'll cut him a little slack. Satellite radio is God's gift to the bored commuter. It's got everything from old music to new music to news to radio drama, nearly any audio you could ever want without the inane commercials or the constant repetition.

Faced with a choice between a Honda Element (which I keep wanting to call a Fifth Element) with XM radio or a Jaguar with boring terrestrial radio...oh, heck yeah, I'd get the Jaguar. I mean, please...
