I need to watch this every morning before I drive to work :).
Found it over on Mary’s blog.
I finally got around to upgrading to WordPress 2.5.1 . The 5 Minute Install or 30 Second Upgrade or whatever it is took only an hour and a half. After I put the right index.php file in the right place and upgraded Askimet everything seems to work fine.
Same lame blog only, now, a bit shinier. ![]()
Take a trip back in time to the 1980s. It’s the height of the Cold War. President Reagan calls the Soviet Union “the Evil Empire”. He gives his famous “Tear Down this Wall” speech in front of the Berlin Wall. Tom Clancy publishes “The Hunt for Red October”. The TV movie “The Day After” about a nuclear war between the US and the USSR is seen by millions and gives everybody nightmares. Things seem dire.
Are you there yet? Ok, now, watch this.
Technorati: Cold War, Red Army Choir, Leningrad Cowboys, Ronald Reagan
Yesterday I was watching a few videos I’d downloaded and came across a talk Edward Burtynsky gave at TED in 2005. He’s a photographer who specializes in photos of “manufactured landscapes” and is probably best known for his photos of mine tailings and tire piles.
That mountain of tires is pretty depressing. The US does a lot of tire recycling, but we still have these big tire piles. Then today I come across an article on CNN about a new way to recycle tires by pulverizing them into powder. The powder can be used in paint to make it more durable and in sealants to make them more elastic. And of course it can be used to make more tires. Looks like with this new method tires can be almost infinitely recyclable and maybe we can finally get rid of those ugly tire piles.
